The post What’s it like owning your own business?? A question I get asked more than I ever would have thought. appeared first on Tap Truck Buffalo.
]]>To be honest, that’s a pretty loaded question I get a lot more than I ever thought. And there is no simple answer. There is no cut and dry of it’s amazing! Though most days it is, and I truly love what I do, there’s a lot that many don’t see that make some days really long.
I’m a single mom to three kids, in more sports than necessary despite my early parenting vows to never let them do more than one sport per season. They have homework, and schoolwork and friends too. So, managing their schedules, along with my professional and personal schedules, can make for some pretty hectic days. I’m thankful that I have a tribe of friends and family surrounding me to help, but at the end of the day, it falls on my shoulders.
Running a small business (three actually and soon to be 4!) requires a lot of behind the scenes, unpaid, gritty work that is required to be put in to make the outside a beautiful presentation for others to see. Not many people realize that before an event for Tap Truck, there is about 6 hours of prep work for EACH event. So last summer when we did 8 events in 11 days, that’s an extra 48 hours that went into my work week on top of the 5–6-hour events. And this was during the height of soccer and lacrosse seasons too for the kids and me as coach.
We pride ourselves in putting the best foot out there, but I’m incredibly transparent when I mess up. Hey, I’m human, it happens. And I’d feel like a jerk if I couldn’t admit that.
If I could tell people one thing about small businesses, it would be to be kind to the owners and the workers. We’re doing our best to make things cost effective for our customers, but also turn a profit. Don’t be mean and nickel and dime. Be transparent with what you expect and if things don’t align, that’s ok too! We’re all just trying to do our best is some really strange times.

Hello – we wanted to share a little bit about events and what to expect when you book with Tap Truck Buffalo.
We officially have our first season under our belts and are amped up for year 2! Our calendar is already starting to fill up which is amazing!
Hosting an event can take a lot of time and effort on your end. We want to make sure you know what to expect when you book with Tap Truck Buffalo
In order to officially get your event in our calendar, we require a 25% deposit. Not sure what package you want yet? No worries! We’ll set a flat fee deposit to ensure you’re in our books. Deposits are fully refundable up to 30 days ahead of the event with written notice and confirmation from Tap Truck Buffalo that it was received.
We arrive an hour to an hour and a half ahead of time. We get everything set up and give the beer time to settle – no one likes foamy beer! We’ll work with the event organizer ahead of time to ensure we have adequate space to park and place our bars. At the end of the event, we take everything with us with the only thing left behind being some pretty happy party goers! We’re self sufficient and don’t require power or much of anything really from our hosts.
What happens if it rains? Or is super hot? Good thing you asked! While it’s always a good idea to keep an eye on the local weather, sometimes it just gets to be too much. Luckily, we’re pretty resilient when it comes to Buffalo weather. We have a 10×10 tent that we carry in the event of rain. It covers our bar area with room to mingle and grab a bevvie while staying dry. Super hot, sunny Buffalo summer day? We have two market umbrellas providing shade for us and the guests.
We’ve learned something at each event we’ve completed and keep a checklist going to make sure we keep getting better!
Shoot us an email at [email protected] to book your next event!

6) Stella Artois –
A Belgian pilsner that is smooth and classy. This beer is a solid quality that everyone recognizes here in the states. That green bottle pops out with the white label and hat. A solid smooth taste for all to share.
5) Coors light –
Life is all good when the mountains are blue! We love to call it the banquet beer. Coors is so drinkable and found in any gas station across America. Coors always seems to keep folks happy and is the biggest beer brand we see ordered up through Tap Truck events besides the craft beer favorites.
4) Hard Seltzer – White Claw
This stuff is like wildfire the past few years. Its popularity has spread across the states being carried around by the variety pack. White Claw has taken over the hard seltzer category, but quite a few companies are venturing into this world. It is very easy to produce along with the low carbs, sugars and gluten free bonus keeps its popularity growing.
3) Prosecco / champagne – La Marca Prosecco
Who doesn’t love some bubbles!? And the best part when properly serving up some mimosas of orange juice and cranberry juice you can set a lovely flavor. La Marca is a brand that can be found in all major stores across the US. Its smooth flavor is a real treat at the next party and prosecco carries a little sweeter profile then champagne.
2) Mexican Lager – Modelo
Believe it or not we get the question a bit: What is a Mexican lager? This is usually because we tend to serve local craft beers. So, the easiest way to explain a what a Mexican lager is by names: Corona, Modelo, Pacifico, Dos Equis, tecate, Sol, Victoria.
Mexican lagers carry an easy-going taste and are the type of beverage you can enjoy especially on a hot day.
1) IPA – Sculpin, Stone, Racer 5
Today’s world of Indian Pale Ales is insane. The flavors and variety’s along with the bitter hops allowing for doubles and triples to be smooth with a high abv is liquid magic. The selection is nuts and now we have seen the world go hazy with unfiltered for even more potent flavors.
Not everyone is an IPA drinker. Truly we understand because it is not our top choice either, but when it comes to the amount of beer that has gone across our bar IPA’s have the competition beat.
The most famous Ipas we have seen around are:
Sculpin – Ballast Point
60 Minute IPA – Dogfish Head
Stone IPA – Stone Brewing
West Coast IPA – Green Flash Brewing
Racer 5 IPA – Bear Republic
Lil’ Sumpin Wild – Lagunitas
All Day IPA – Founders Brewing
